Internet Connections for
Classics
These links, like the Web itself, will overlap, interweave,
snarl, unravel, update, and outdate themselves constantly.
The best discovery technique, then, is probably a combination
of the analytic (figuring it out) and the stochastic (just
clicking in and browsing away).
- Maria
Pantelia provides what may be the most
comprehensive single link. Begin here.
- The
Library of Congress Classics Site Or
begin here. LC librarianship is stunning.
- Argos
A peer-reviewed search engine for the ancient and
medieval worlds. "Peer-reviewed" means
that professional Classicists have evaluated and
approved the links.
- Perseus
is the home of hyperlink software for access to a
large data base on classical Greek language and
culture. This site now links to Greek art and
archaeology, to many Greek texts, to
morphological analysis of forms, and to the
Liddell-Scott-Jones Greek Lexicon. The Perseus
database itself contains even more than the Web
links. Please consult J. Borelli or T. Banks for
information on how to find and use Perseus at
Augustana.
- Tools
for Roman Literature (Rutgers) Major
tools indeed for literary form, history, and
theory.
- Getty Museum
A major collection of classical art
- Thesaurus
Linguae Graecae This is the site for
information about the digitized repository of all
ancient Greek. The Augustana Classics
Department has the TLG on CD-ROM. Please consult
T. Banks or J. Borelli for information on how to
search the database.
- Michigan
Links to Classics This, like the
Pantelia site, leads to a web indeed of sites
about classical antiquity. The search tool is
advanced.
- Diotima
is a home page for materials on the study of
women and gender in the ancient world. That topic
leads, of course, to all other topics. Diotima
also offers a well-focused search tool, Lupa.
- Aegeanet
Home page of the main archaeology list for
Mediterranean antiquities
- Virtual
Acropolis This site stores graphics and
data about the Acropolis of Athens.
- Exploring
Ancient Cultures A syllabus for a
western civ course at the U. of Edwardsville, IL.
- University
of Alberta, Canada A page regarded as
constituting, like Pantelia's, a major synoptic
site.
- Publications: On-line Texts, Printed Publications,
Software, and Their Searching
-
- TOCSIN
Tables of Contents of Journals of Interest to
Classicists. Non-toxic despite the acronym, and a
powerful way to find recent publications

impressive assembly of sites.
- American
Philological Association The national
association for Classicists.
- Illinois
Classical Conference The state site for
Classics. It concentrates on local issues and

- Classics-L
Site of the general Classics
"listserv". It archives the volatile
exchanges across the Classics List.(whether wise,
or just informed, or just overcaffinated, or just
sleepy). It also posts an extremely well chosen
page of resource links.
- CAMWS
This links to the home page of the Classical
Association of the Midwest and South. At the
present, this is a list of members and their
e-addresses.
- CANE
