Augustana operates under a charter granted by the General Assembly of the State of Illinois, and is certiﬁed as a degree-granting institution by the state.
The college has been accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities, 130 N. LaSalle, Suite 2400, Chicago, IL 60602, since the association began accreditation in 1912.
Augustana also is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Illinois State Board of Education. Copies of the charter and the letters of accreditation are available for review in the Ofﬁce of the President.
The college also is recognized by the American Chemical Society and the American Association of University Women. In 1950, Augustana established its chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society, the Zeta Chapter of Illinois.
