BA 389 - Internship Analysis Assignments

Internships    |    Expectations    |    Requirements    |    Placements |    Links |    Find an Internship
Companies which sponsor interns view them as important contributors to their missions. As an intern, you will be assigned daily responsibilities and long-term projects, and will attend managerial and professional meetings. Current Augustana students may view the complete assignments for an internship. During your orientation you will be given an introduction to the firm and informed of your responsibilities. Likewise, you should feel free to discuss the hopes and expectations that you have of your internship.

In the eight-credit departmental internship, you must work full-time, generally from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. To obtain academic credit, you must work at least 320 hours for the sponsoring company. Each intern is formally evaluated by an on-site supervisor.

Some internships not only help students to discover their major field of interest, but also clarify the specific job in which they would like to be employed. Internships also offer employers a preview of prospective candidates for employment. Enthusiasm and dedication in your internship not only enhances your academic progress, but also could affect your job search after graduation.

Financial Information

Financial assistance continues during an internship, unless the internship takes place during the summer. Except for loans, Augustana does not offer financial assistance during the summer term. Contact the Office of Financial Assistance for further details.

Tuition is charged according to the number of credit hours earned. For example, a summer internship in 2002 cost $459 per credit hour - the same cost per credit hour as on-campus courses. You may receive a $50 discount for early summer registration. Since a professional practice fulfills no credits, no tuition is charged.

As for salaries, paid to the intern, each internship varies. Most sponsors pay a stipend or an hourly rate, others provide free room and board. Other benefits also vary, according to the company. Some of the best internships do not pay a salary, but provide work experience and insight which is invaluable. In the long run, a sound internship experience is very valuable to any student.
