One of the most beneficial aspects of the college experience is the internship. For business students, taking an internship during the college years is a good way to gain insight into actual details of their chosen business-related field, and to develop professional and personal skills before moving into the competitive business world. Internships can be full-time or part-time hours. Internships are generally considered temporary work situations with an employer and may be taken in any business-related field, during fall, winter, spring, or summer academic terms.
Internships may be completed for academic credit or for no academic credit. Some companies require that the student earn academic credit during the internship.
The Business Administration faculty recommends an academic-credit internship for each qualifying business student. For interns receiving academic credit, the intern is supervised by the Department of Business Administration as well as by the internship site supervisor. The full-time departmental internship carries nine academic credits and is available to juniors and seniors with declared majors in business administration. Students may have departmental internship placements in the Quad-City area, near their hometowns, throughout the United States, or overseas. Departmental business internships fulfill three credits for BUSN389, three credits for INTR388, and three credits for INTR389. Current Augustana students may view the assignments for BUSN389 credits.
During a full-time internship, students generally do not take additional courses on campus. If you want special approval to complete the full-time internship as well as one class in the same term, you must state your case in your internship letter of application submitted to the Internship Committee. Describe the course and why you need to complete the course concurrently with the internship.
The part-time Professional Practice internship carries four academic credits and is available to juniors and seniors with declared majors in Business Administration. Students must intern in the Quad Cities area since you are taking classes concurrently with the Professional Practice internship. Interns earn two credits in INTR280 and two credits in INTR381. Current Augustana students may view the assignments for INTR381 credits. |
