Management @ Augustana Business

It is self-evident that organizations exist because groups of people working together can accomplish more than individuals working alone. However, with the founding of groups working together to accomplish common goals comes the need to coordinate efforts and influence others. All organizations, whether for-profit, governmental, or non-profit, need managers who can plan, organize, lead, and control organizational resources to achieve their goals in an efficient and effective manner. Regardless of the drastic changes in the ways organizations operate, the need for effective management will only increase.

At Augustana College business administration majors who concentrate in management will learn the tools and knowledge needed to prepare them for one of the most complex tasks known-managing other people. Management, in its most basic element, is the ability to relate with and influence other human beings. Accordingly, the Augustana management concentration focuses on the human aspects of managing others, along with the scientific principles needed to understand individual and group behavior. Particular emphasis is placed on learning to manage in a humane and ethical manner.

Students will be exposed to the classic and most current management principles and practices at Augustana. In addition they will have the opportunity to explore specific topics as diverse as the role of business in society, production and operations management, and human resource management. Augustana's curriculum in management will prepare students with the tools, knowledge, and critical thinking skills needed to be an effective manager in today's and tomorrow's complex world.
