Finance
@ Augustana Business
Financial
markets, financial institutions, and financial management are
crucial elements to a healthy and growing economy. Financial markets
and institutions provide the mechanism for allocating scarce financial
resources from the providers of financial capital to the users
of those funds. Financial management is the planning and decision-making
involved in the efficient use of financial resources required
for the production and exchange of goods and services.
An understanding
of finance is not just relevant for financial managers or accountants.
All professionals need an understanding of the basic concepts
of finance so they can work intelligently within their organization
and comprehend the important financial implications of the marketing,
management, production and other business decisions organizations
make. At Augustana College business administration majors who
concentrate in finance will learn the practical tools that will
give them the skills necessary to understand and manage an organization
in an increasingly competitive and global business environment.
Students will
be exposed to the most current financial theories, principles,
and practices in areas such as corporate financial management,
financial markets and institutions, and investments and portfolio
management. In addition they will have the opportunity to explore
specific issues in finance through the use of case studies and
simulations. Particular emphasis is placed on developing student's
critical thinking and problem solving skills.
