Role of the First Year Advisee

While the academic advisor serves as a resource, students must understand that they are expected to take ownership of their academic experience. It is the student's responsibility to be sure that requirements for graduation are met. Therefore, students are expected to:

1.       Read all college communications (College Catalog, correspondence, emails, etc.)

2.       Become knowledgeable of all requirements for graduation

3.       Attend all meetings scheduled by FYA or Peer Mentor

4.       Meet with First Year Advisor before registering for classes

  • Come at appointed time
  • Come with questions and draft of schedule

5.       Register on-line through WebAdvisor

6.       Contact FYA when s/he

  • has a question about College policies or procedures
  • encounters academic difficulty
  • needs to make changes to course schedule
  • is ready to discuss and/or declare a major course of study
