Programming for Faculty Development

Faculty Development Programming

The Augustana Center for Teaching & Learning (ACTL) provides many opportunities for faculty to improve their teaching and their students' learning. On-going programming throughout the year is planned largely in response to a Faculty Needs Assessment survey administered every year just prior to the start of classes. While some themes change from year to year, ACTL activities include

  • Teaching observation groups
  • Training for the use and interpretation of the IDEA Center Student Rating of Instruction
  • Learning ePortfolio initiative
  • Blended Learning initiative
  • ACTL reading groups (currently Ken Bain's What the Best College Teachers Do)
  • Curriculum mapping workshops
  • Diversity in the classroom
  • Reflection in the classroom and in the major
  • Active learning techniques
  • Scholarship of Teaching & Learning interest group
  • Improving student research skills
  • Promoting student success--faculty support for Student Services
