This Week's Message

Welcome back to the realities of the term!  Faculty senate is sponsoring a "double feature" of sorts this Thursday morning (followed by an encore presentation at Friday Conversation.)

Up first at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in Gävle 405 of the CSL is a faculty forum on alternative Faculty Senate models.  Faculty Senate has taken seriously the five-pronged charge from last year's senate:

  1. Consider, clarify, and prioritize role/responsibilities of Senate
  2. Consider number of members of Senate necessary to appropriately address responsibilities of Senate
  3. Consider distribution of Senate membership
  4. Consider how to address absenteeism
  5. Consider an "opt in" ballot preparation for Senate elections

Now is your chance to weigh in on some possible alternatives to our current Faculty Senate model.  This Faculty Forum will replace the scheduled Faculty Senate meeting.

Then, stay put in Gävle 405 for a conversation about healthcare at Augustana at 11:30 a.m.  Continuing our "Conversations Series," sponsored by Faculty Senate, Laura Ford and David English will talk about healthcare at Augustana.  Laura and David will answer questions and also give us a heads up on some of the healthcare issues Augustana may face in the future.  This discussion is open to faculty, staff, and administration.

For those of you who can't attend the Thursday conversation on healthcare, Laura and David will host a second conversation during our Friday Conversations time slot at 4:00 on Friday (come early for the food and drink).

Hope to see you for one or both of these important discussions.

Wendy Hilton-Morrow
Faculty Senate Chair
