This Week's Message

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome back to the start of another academic year!

Many new faces have joined us in the faculty ranks, and I would like to welcome them all to our community. I look forward to introducing our new colleagues at the first full faculty meeting on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.

As we begin this new academic year, I want to extend my gratitude once again for your commitment to the mission of the college and for serving it admirably. Without your efforts we would be unable to provide the quality education, experiences, and opportunities that we make available for our students. Thank you!

I am also grateful for your participation in the 2016 campus and faculty retreat. It was wonderful to see the participation across all campus constituents. The discussions we had at the retreat related to helping our students thrive in college and semester conversion were both thoughtful and energizing. There is a lot of work that lies ahead of us but I am confident that we will met these challenges with creative solutions and resolve to do the right thing for our students and their learning.

I am pleased to announce that Brunner Theatre Center, the new home of our Theatre Department will be open to the campus in the next few days. The crew is busy unpacking boxes and finishing last-minute touchups and installations. I hope you will join your colleagues this Friday for the year's first Friday Conversation hosted in the Brunner Theatre Center. Jeff Coussens will lead a tour of our newest campus building and talk about what the Brunner Theatre Center means for the campus, the Quad Cities, and the new teaching initiatives of the Theatre arts Departments. We will meet in the lobby area on the main floor of the Brunner Theatre Center at 3:30 PM. Refreshments will be served. The Wilson Center is awaiting a minor facelift and will be ready for use in a few weeks.

Finally, in true Augustana tradition, we have a very busy year ahead of us! I will not list all the things that we need to get done but I am confident that we will work together as we build a vibrant future for Augustana. I look forward to the year that lies ahead of us. Wishing you the best for the 2016-17 academic year.
