Faculty Research in Peace Studies Grants

Objective:
To support scholarly research by Augustana faculty in the field of Peace Studies, broadly construed. Although it is difficult to define the boundaries of Peace Studies precisely, as our Mission Statement suggests, it includes efforts to understand the social, political, and economic conditions that contribute to violent conflicts, to ending violent conflicts, and that favor or enhance the prevalence of peaceful (non-violent) and harmonious coexistence. A wide range of projects might fall within these general limits, and consequently, applicants in a wide range of academic fields are encouraged to apply. Research might include, but is not limited to: in-country research into the causes of a particular violent conflict, or into how a particular violent conflict has been resolved; in-country research into social or political practices of a particular community that have succeeded in encouraging non-violent and cooperative solutions to conflict; or scholarship based on comparative research aimed at general understanding of how certain sorts of conflicts can be successfully and peacefully resolved.
