Upcoming faculty development opportunities:

January 9th: Workshop on teaching and assessing reading and oral communication

"My students don't know how to read!"  

"These Senior Inquiry presentations are dreadful!" 

We've all heard, or said, one of these things. As part of our year-long focus on our "Communicate" learning outcome, the Assessment for Improvement Committee along with the Office of Academic Affairs will sponsor a day-long workshop on teaching and assessing reading and oral communication. Departments should plan to send at least one representative to the workshop; we promise that you will come away with effective and efficient strategies for teaching and assessing student learning in these areas. And lunch.

Beginning February 6th: Advising Academy 

Are you interested in honing your advising skills... and earning some recognition for your efforts? Starting February 6th, we will sponsor a series of conversations about advising-related topics that will give you more tools to use in your advising conversations, and ways to assess your advising effectiveness. If you attend 4 of the sessions offered, you will receive recognition for completing the sequence (and be eligible for some as-of-now undetermined excellent prize. Stay tuned.) A complete list of workshops will be available soon; most will take place on non-Senate Thursdays from 10:30 - 11:30.   

April 4th: Friday Conversation on Student Research Writing with Sandra Jamieson

Sandra Jamieson, Director of Writing Across the Curriculum at Drew University, will be discussing her work with the Citation Project, a multi-institutional study that examines academic integrity, plagiarism, citation, and research writing.
