The Faculty Portfolio is a collection of documents, materials or other products that can be used to reflect analytically about your teaching, document your effectiveness as a teacher, organize your research/scholarly work for later use in publications, grant writing, etc. and helps to organize evidence for performance reviews. The session will give some basic information on the different kinds of portfolios as well as practical advice on the ways they can be used by faculty.

Power Point Workshop

Have you been using PowerPoint in your classroom, but not getting the feedback you hoped? When you turn down the lights, do your students turn down the sheets and fluff up their pillows? Maybe it's time to talk PowerPoint with others having the same problems.
On January 21st at 4:00 p.m. Paul Lewellan (Adjunct Faculty in Business Administration) will host a PowerPoint workshop in Evald 315. This is not a "how-to" introduction to PowerPoint. It is designed for people who already use PowerPoint, but want to use it more effectively.
(In addition to teaching Business Writing and Performance Studies at Augustana, Paul has published 22 short stories. His firm, PHL Consulting, does communication training and executive mentoring for area businesses.)

Student Attitudes and Behavior in the Classroom

Does the gender of a faculty member influence the way students interact and respond in class? Do men and women faculty experience different patterns of student reaction to written comments and critiques? Sharon Varallo will begin the session by presenting a summary of some research on these topics and will help facilitate the follow-up discussion.
