Greetings from the Center for Teaching & Learning.

It's becoming a habit for me to suggest, at the beginning of week five each term, that you consider administering a mid-term evaluation of your students' learning.

There are some in-house resources that some of our colleagues have graciously shared, available in the section on Classroom Assessment Techniques on the ACTL moodle site. In that section you will also find a link to the Student Assessment of their Learning Gains (SALG) website, a "free course-evaluation tool that allows college-level instructors to gather learning-focused feedback from students."

As another option, you may want to construct an evaluation tool asking students to report on their progress toward the learning objectives you have chosen as essential or important on your IDEA SRI Faculty Information Form.

Of course, there is no reason to only get formative feedback at the middle of the term. In the section on Classroom Assessment Techniques you will also find resources for formative assessment that you can use throughout the term. Take a look at the article on formative assessment techniques by Weissinger and Flowers; I trust you'll find lots of great, useful suggestions. And if have your own instrument that you have used with success, please share!
