DOCTORS IN RECITAL

The musical talents of Quad Cities physicians and their families wil be featured at 7:00 PM on Monday, November 8, 2010 in a recital at Centennial Hall to benefit music therapy programs for Genesis hospice patients. Doctors and their families will perform a variety of music, from classical to contemporary. They will perform on the Model D Steinway piano of renowned pianist Van Cliburn, courtesy of West Music and Steinway & Sons. Music therapy programs are available to Genesis hospice patients in their homes, nursing homes and at teh Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House. Music therapy has been shown to bring quality to life, dheinish pain and promote relaxation during end of life care. Tickets are $25 for the general public and $20 for senior citizens. Children under 12 are free. Tickets for Augustana faculty, staff, and students are $10 available at the Augustana Ticket Office tickets@augustana.edu.
Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR)
Posters on the Hill Application Announcement
Nothing more effectively demonstrates the value of undergraduate research than the words and stories of the student participants themselves. In the Spring of 2011 the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) will host its 15th annual undergraduate poster session on Capitol Hill. This event will help members of Congress understand the importance of undergraduate research by talking directly with the students whom these programs impact.
CUR is calling for students of member institutions to submit an abstract of their research that represents any of CUR's disciplinary divisions (Arts and Humanities, Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Health Sciences, Mathematics/Computer Science, Physics/Astronomy, Psychology, and Social Sciences). In order to ensure proper review of applications, the above are the only disciplines that may apply. Should your research be inter-disciplinary, please select the division that most closely describes your research.
Abstract submissions will only be accepted by using an on-line submission form. Prior to submitting the form, students should gather the contact information for all co-authors, advisors and sponsors (if applicable), prepare a short vitae/resume, and poster abstract. Either the student's home institution must have an institutional membership, or the faculty mentor or student must have an individual membership.
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Please be sure that both portions (the electronic application and the electronic recommendation letter) are submitted by November 15, 2010.
Please encourage your students to submit. This is a highly competitive program, which makes for a very exciting experience for the students and their faculty advisors alike.

THE WOMEN OF AUGUSTANA: AHS ANNUAL MEETING

You are invited to attend the Augustana Historical Society annual dinner on Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Following the 6:00 PM dinner, Dr. Ann Boaden will present "Mentors, Models and Mavericks," offering a preview of her forthcoming book on the women of Augustana, planned for release later this year. Members of the AHS will receive a complimentary copy of Dr. Boaden's book, and a $5 discount on dinner. The dinner costs $25 per person.
