ACTL
Greetings from the Center for Teaching & Learning.
I hope your first week of winter term went well. I'll admit that I (too?) am already looking forward to Thanksgiving break!
I am happy to announce that we have been able to renew our subscription to the
National Teaching & Learning Forum
an online journal accessible from any computer on campus; each edition is downloadable as a .pdf. The current edition contains articles like Using Metaphors to Build Knowledge and Think in Fractals...Educating in Fractal Patterns. No matter what your current interests, I believe you'll find something useful and thought-provoking. A permanent link can be found at the top of the ACTL moodle site or in the Readings section of the weekly Faculty Newsletter. Check it out!
I would also like to announce that, in coordination with the Student Rating Supervisory Committee and the office of Institutional Research and Assessment, ACTL will begin training (this week!) for the new IDEA SRI. We are encouraging everyone to consider using the new SRI for at least one course this term and as many as feasible throughout the course of the year. We are hoping that everyone will get some experience with the new forms this year before we norm the instrument next year.
We will be holding our first open training session on Thursday 2 December (week iii) at 10:30 (since there is no Convocation that day). Space will be limited so please watch for that announcement. We are also hoping that we can provide training to entire departments; again, watch for that announcement. If you have any questions, please contact me, Amanda Baugous, chair of the SRSC, or Mark Salisbury, director of IR&A.
Until then, have a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving break.
