This Week's Message
Dear Colleagues:
What a perfect day to begin classes!
I was delighted to see a terrific attendance at our faculty retreat and for the rich conversation about the future of our curriculum. I think our conversation is off to an excellent start.
We have a busy year before us. I am confident that our conversations this year will help us to find ways to sustain our curriculum for the decades ahead and enable the college to continue to thrive. We will begin the conversation at the faculty meeting Tuesday, August 25 (5:30 in Olin).
In addition to general education and the curriculum, this year we will need to discuss the changing demographics of our traditional student base and the new programs we will develop together to sustain our enrollment.
As always, I would like to hear your thoughts about our conversation so far: please stop by my office (we post open hours each week) or call Sherry Docherty (7312) to arrange a time when we might get together. Alternately, of course, just drop me an email or give me a call.
We hope the Faculty Newsletter will be a way for all of us to keep in communication through the year. Please send news items (such as new developments in your teaching, scholarly presentations or publications, or family items) to Mary Koski or to me and we will be sure to include them here. Likewise, if you will pass along recommended reading, we will include those items here. You will regularly hear from colleagues in this cover note as well.
I look forward to our conversations this year.
Yours,
Jeff Abernathy
