Faculty News

Paul Croll recently gave a talk entitled "Rethinking the Nature of Whiteness: How do Americans Explain Racial Inequality?" as part of the University of Iowa Sociology Department's Theory Workshop.

Margaret Morse presented the paper "Beyond the Madonna and Child: The Arts of Domestic Devotion in Renaissance Venice," on April 8 at the Renaissance Society of America's annual conference in Venice. The paper explored the ways in which religious art in the Renaissance home, although personal in nature, connected the family and household to a wider community of Christian devotion. She was honored to give this paper in one of seven sessions titled "Celebrating Venezianità," which paid tribute to the distinguished and prolific career of Patricia Fortini Brown, Professor of Renaissance Art History at Princeton University, on the occasion of her retirement. The week prior, on April 1, Margaret gave a gallery talk on prints after Raphael at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport in connection with the exhibit, "In the Footsteps of the Master: The Evolution of the Reproductive Print," currently on display. On May 1 she will deliver a lecture titled, "Dutch Masters of Art," in Fulton, IL in honor of the city's annual celebration of "Dutch Days."
