Lisa Farinelli has just had an article, "Attachment and Relational Satisfaction: The Mediating Effect of Emotional Communication," published in the December 2009 issue of Communication Monographs, one of the flagship national journals of the National Communication Association. Co-authored with Laura Guerrero of Arizona State University and Bree McEwan of Western Illinois University, the study examines how a widely accepted relationship between attachment styles (particular patterns of emotion and behavior in intimate relationships) and satisfaction in a relationship is "partially explained by emotional communication". The authors argue that ways of communicating emotion need to be examined more closely as variables that mediate between attachment styles and relational satisfaction, rather than simply relying on relying on the identification of attachment style alone.
