Dan Lee, Religion, served as an associate editor for Volume I of The Global Studies Journal. In this capacity, he reviewed several papers submitted for consideration for publication.

Augustana College has been selected to participate in a program called The Undergraduate Research Program in Microbial Genome Annotation, which is sponsored by the Department of Energy's Joint Genome Institute (JGI). In her application, Lori Scott (Biology Department) proposed that Augustana lead a research network composed of faculty and students from the four Quad City colleges, which include Todd Linscott at Blackhawk, Angel Ghrist at EICCD and Matthew Halfill at St. Ambrose, for the purpose of enhancing research opportunities for students, especially those students from groups underrepresented in the sciences. This Quad City research network will adopt a bacterial genome from the JGI, and then students will use contemporary bioinformatics tools to characterize putative genes and other characteristics of the genome with the goal of publishing their work in teh JGI's Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea (GEBA). This collaboration between the JGI, undergraduate educators and their students is a response to the call to reform undergraduate life sciences education through research experience.
