Lunchbytes at the Tredway Library

Almost all writing is done electronically these days. However, much of the proofing and revision tends to involve paper. Digital tools can facilitate prompt feedback and allow group editing of drafts. This session will look at the challenges and opportunities of tools for moving the writing process to a fully digital cycle. Pizza will be served; bring your own beverage. Lunchbytes is a joing program of the Tredway Library and ITS exploring teaching resources and isues in higher education.
Poetry Reading

Poet Laureate of Illinois, Kevin Stein, will read from his work. Named poet laureate in 2003, Stein is the fourth poet to hold that position following Gwendolyn brooks, Carl Sandberg, and Howardar Austin. Stein is a professor of English and Director of Creative Writing at Bradley University and has published numerous books of petry, including his latest collection in 2008, "Sufficiency of the Actual." The winner of numerous awards, Stein most recently won the Vernon Louis Parrington Medal for Distinguished Writing."
CALL FOR JAEKE AWARD NOMINATIONS
Deadline: Friday, April 3, 2009 at 4:30 pm
Nominations for the Harold T. and Violet M. Jaeke awards must be received in the Academic Affairs office no later than 4:30 PM Friday, April 3, 2009 at 4:30 PM. So that we may fully and fairly consider each nominee, the Jaeke Committee asks that you complete the nomination form; we will not review letters of nomination. The Committee also will not consider group/collaborative nominations (one nomination form with multiple signatures). Each recommendation requires a separate nomination form. Keep in mind that it is possible to receive the award ONE TIME ONLY. Please take the time to recognize the hard work of your fellow workers. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Koski in the Academic Affairs Office.
Thirth-third Annual Rock Island Fine Arts Exhibition
Public Opening Reception
Augustana College Art Museum
April 3, 2009 ~~ 4:30 - 6:30 PM
On Friday, April 3, from 4:30 - 6:30 PM there will be the public opening reception for the Thirty-third Annual Rock Island Fine Arts Exhibition in the Augustana College Art Museum. Over $4,000 in awards will be presented to regional visual artists for this exhibition, co-sponsored by the Rock Island Art Guild and the Augustana College Art Museum. This annual juried competition is open to artists working in any media except video, and residing within a 150-mile radius of the Quad Cities. The exhibition will take place at the Augustana College Art Museum during March 28-April 26 (closed Easter weekend April 10-13). For 2009 we saw the participation of 121 artists entering 240 pieces, with 51 art works accepted. The 2009 juror is Brigham Dimick, associate professor and the Head of Drawing in the Department of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
For faculty activities, Sherry Maurer, Director of the Augustana College Art Museum, will serve as a facilitator for two sessions examining museum studies in the Liberal Arts and academe at the May 2 conference of the Association of College and University Museums and Galleries to take place at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Augustana Historical Society Spring Meeting

The spring meeting of the Augustana Historical Society will be held on April 21, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the Wilson Center. Dr. Stephen Warren will present "John Henry Hauberg, Meskwaki Powwows, and Community Survival in the Industrial Midwest." Light refreshments will be served.
NEW COURSE APPROVAL PROCESS
A reminder for faculty members wanting to have new courses approved for fall term:
Faculty members wishing to have new courses approved for Fall 2009 need to have their materials through the course review process in time for the last Faculty Senate meeting of the year, on May 7th.
In order to be passed by Senate on May 7th, department- and division-approved courses should be submitted to the Education Policies Committee (EPC) and (if applicable) the General Education Committee by April 10, 2009.
Course materials should be submitted electronically to EPC through the online form available on CampusNet (http://campus.augustana.edu/academic/AGES/AddaCourse.php).
If the course is a Learning Community, an LSFY course, or is to be considered for LP, G, or D designations, then course materials also need to be submitted to the Gen Ed committee. The appropriate forms for the AGES program can also be found on CampusNet (http://campus.augustana.edu/academic/AGES/index.php).
