Celebration of Faculty Scholarship and Teaching
Thanks to all who attended the Celebration of Faculty Scholarship and Teaching on October 10th in the Library. In conjunction with that annual event, the library has created a web forum to track all faculty publications, exhibits, conference papers, and other scholarly achievements. Beginning today, whenever you have a scholarly accomplishment to report, please visit the Faculty Achievements Form page at http://www.augustana.edu/library/Services/facultyachievement.html and submit your accomplishment online. Faculty Recital
The campus community is invited to a performance of new(ish) music by David Davies on Tuesday, October 21st at 8:00 PM in Ascension Chapel. The evening will feature 6 works, 5 of which will receive their Augustana premiers. Performers include 4 members of the Music Department faculty/staff, 26 students, and members of the Choir at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Rock Island.
Civic Engagement as Senior Inquiry
The Kemper Reflective Leader Internship Program

As we work toward providing each of our students with a senior inquiry experience, one option that we might consider is a civic engagement project. Such projects are based upon the principles of social action research that require students to thoroughly research a contemporary issue, work in an organization that addresses that issue, and reflect upon themselves and their responsibilities and obligations to society. Through funding from the Kemper Foundation, the CVR and the ILS, fourteen students completed civic engagement internships during summer, 2008. The program can potential support 20 interns for summer, 2009.
This session will discuss the philosophy and structure of the program, and present the final reports of the interns. It is for faculty interested in service learning, and students interested in such internships.

Faculty Research Forum Meetings
The Faculty Research Forum (FRF) is an interdisciplinary working group of faculty who are currently researching and writing in their fields. Each member is dedicated to improving her/his scholarly work, and to helping others to do the same. To learn more, please contact Molly Todd (history) or Jason Mahn (religion). All meetings are from 4:30 to 6:00 PM in the Dahl Room of the College Center. Dates for the rest of the academic year are as folllows:

Learning Communities Workshop
The next Learning Community Workshop will be on Saturday, November 22, 2008 beginning at 9:00 AM. All members of the faculty are invited to attend, even if you were unable to come to the October 4th workshop. If you have identified a partner with whom you would like to work with on a new learning community,you can plan to work with them at the workshop. You are encouraged to think about linking courses that are already in your teaching rotation rather than creating new courses exclusively for the LC program. If you don't have a partner, but would hope to participate in the program at some poinnt, we will have you participate in the same brainstorming activities that were done on the 4th.
