Sinoidal Ensemble to perform Spanish music March 13

As part of their American tour, Sinoidal Ensemble will perform a program of 20-21st century Spanish pieces at 8 p.m. March 13 in the Denkmann Memorial Building's Wallenberg Hall on campus This event is free and open to the public.

In addition to their performance, the musicians will be on campus March 11-13 to work with music students in a saxophone masterclass and an electronic music class. They also will be guest speakers in a music theory class and Spanish language classes.

Founded in 2013, Sinoidal Ensemble is a saxophone duo of José Miguel Cantero and Ana Lencina Sánchez, specializing in the performance of contemporary music. The program they will perform at Augustana explores the concept of sound, in which the listener-spectator enjoys the essence and modulations of sound, as well as multimedia elements including video and film.

Cantero and Sánchez have performed in concert halls and festivals throughout Europe, including concerts at the Reina Sofía Contemporary Museum in Madrid, Universities of Alcalá de Henares and Complutense in Madrid, FEX at the International Music Festival of Granada, and Tor Vergata at the University of Rome.

In addition to Sinoidal Ensemble, Cantero and Sánchez participate in several other ensembles, including Sigma Project and Ensemble Atmosphére. They have led masterclasses throughout Europe, including Vienna, Cologne, Frankfurt, Tallin, Avellino, Sevilla and Huelva.

Cantero was born in Hellin, Spain, while Sánchez is a native of Jumilla, Spain. Both studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Murcia in Spain and at the Conservatoire Jacques Thibaud in Bordeaux, France, with Marie-Bernardette Charrier.
