Monica Gil will present her composition concert. She is a senior from Vernon Hills, Ill., majoring in music composition and instrumental music education.

The recital will consist of three short instrumental solos written by Gil: "Distant Blue" for marimba, "Dance for Little Feet" for violin, and "Variations on the Bird of Truth Theme" for flute.

There also will be a staged reading of "The Bird of Truth," an operetta written by Gil for young audiences in one act. The work is based on a Spanish fairy tale about two siblings who go on an adventure.
