The Penguin Project of the Quad Cities is back for a second season with the show "Beauty and the Beast Jr.," a collaboration between Augustana College and the Center for Living Arts in Rock Island.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23-24 and March 2-3, and at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 25 and March 4.
Established in 2004, the Penguin Project has evolved into a national program. Its goal is to provide an opportunity for children with special needs to develop creative skills related to the theatre arts.
Roles are filled by young artists with developmental disabilities. They are joined on stage by a peer mentors who have volunteered to work side by side with them through rehearsals and the final performances.
Augustana will produce "Beauty and the Beast Jr." and stage it at the Brunner Theatre Center. The cast and mentors will rehearse at the Center for Living Arts.
