Iowa Women’s History: Fighting for Freedom

Augustana's Dr. Jane Simonsen will be part of a panel discussion “Iowa Women’s History: Fighting for Freedom,” sponsored by the Davenport Public LIbrary, St. Ambrose University and the Davenport Civil Rights Commission.

The panel also will include District Associate Judge Romonda D. Belcher and Dr. Katy Strzepek of St. Ambrose.

Simonsen is associate professor of history and gender studies at Augustana. Her research areas include 19th and 20th century women's work, photography and history, and history of the western and mid-western United States.

Belcher was appointed as a district court judge in 2010, becoming the first African-American female judge in Iowa. She presides over juvenile court dependency and delinquency cases.

Strzepek's research focuses on activist adolescent girls in the United States.
