The WVIK Public Radio Foundation is a group of committed listeners organized to find additional means of financing WVIK’s annual operations and to build a strong fiscal base for the future.

Endowment Campaign. The board solicits substantial gifts to be placed in trust for WVIK’s future. Interest each year is divided between an addition to the fund and an amount to assist in the current year’s operating costs.

The Challengers’ Circle. This group of individuals and families makes an annual gift of at least $500 each for the purpose of matching new pledges and increases in renewal pledges during the semi-annual on-air campaigns.

The WVIK Public Radio Foundation is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, founded in 1992 by a group of concerned listeners to provide on-going sup-port for WVIK. The Foundation’s mission is to generate funding to sustain the operation of the station. To date, the Foundation has initiated the WVIK Challengers’ Circle matching fund for membership growth, an endowment, and hosted fund-raising events.

WVIK is a professionally operated public radio station, broadcasting at 90.3 FM in the Quad Cities, and at 95.7 FM in Dubuque, Iowa. Owned and operated by Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, the station broadcasts classical music, NPR and local news and public affairs programs for an 18-county area serving northwestern Illinois and eastern Iowa. WVIK also operates the Augustana Public Radio Information Service (APRIS)—“Radio that Reads”—a free service for persons with visual difficulty.

Local support for WVIK programs and operation represents 71% of the annual funding for the station. This substantial public generosity includes 43% from individual members, 13% from business and community organizations in the form of underwriting, plus 15% from local community, foundation and corporate grants, including the WVIK Public Radio Foundation. Support is received from state Arts and Humanities Councils (Illinois and Iowa) and public broadcasting grants (Illinois only), as well as federal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
