CUSTODIAL HISTORY

Jane Tiedge donated the collection on March 1, 2001. The materials were separated from the Ross Paulson papers (MSS 144) in 2009.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Jane Tiedge was a non-traditional student at Augustana College in the mid-1990s, as well as a staff member in the Office of International Programs. She was encouraged to begin her studies in history and religion by professor Ross Paulson. Tiedge's research as a student and later as an independent scholar focused primarily on Sister Ingeborg Nystul, a Lutheran missionary to China.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Jane Tiedge papers contain Tiedge's student essays, including those on Sister Ingeborg Nystul, a diary of her trip to China in 1998, and miscellaneous items. The collection consists of three series: Academic, Trip to China, and Miscellaneous.

The Academic, 1994-1996 and undated series contains student essays written by Tiedge about Sissieretta Jones, Ross Paulson, and Ingeborg Nystul (1971, 1973, 1991, 1994-1996 and undated). Also included is a lengthy essay on Sissieretta Jones by Wilia Estelle Daughtry that Tiedge consulted as a secondary source.

The Trip to China, 1998 series contains a typewritten diary documenting Tiedge's experiences in China, as well as articles and press releases about Tiedge's trip to China to research Nystul.

The Miscellaneous series contains budgets, a poem and clipped obituaries.
