| HISTORICAL NOTE |
The Rockety-I yearbook first appeared in 1912 and has been published annually under the same name since that time. As noted in the March 1912 issue of the Augustana Observer, the Rockety-I 1912 was "the second of its kind ever attempted at our institution of learning"; the previous attempt at a comprehensive yearbook was the Jubilee 1910 which was published in commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the college by the class of 1910.
The name Rockety-I appears to have been taken from the Augustana College yell: "Rockety-eye! Ki-eye! Ki-eye! Rockety-eye! Ki-eye! Ki-eye! Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah! Rah! Augustana! Rah! Rah!"
The 1990 scrapbook that was found in an old home near campus appears to have been created by Jon Sjolund after his two years as the Rockety-I editor. He organized the information he gathered over two years along with tips for future editors. |

| SCOPE AND CONTENT |
The records contained in this collection pertain to the 1931 Rockety-I yearbook and a scrapbook of editorial information from the late 1980s. The collection covers only the business aspect of the creation of the yearbook, so is very narrow in scope. The collection has been organized into three series: Correspondence, Financial records, and 1990 Scrapbook.
The Correspondence (1929-1932) series includes letters to and from the Rockety-I staff regarding advertising in the yearbook and settling of accounts.
The Financial records series contains printing and engraving contracts, order forms for yearbooks, receipts, bills, bank statements, cancelled checks and other matters related to the finances of the 1931 Rockety-I.
The 1990 Scrapbook series contains correspondence and information gathered at the end of the 1980s as well as notes and brief letters from Sjolund to future editors giving tips and explaining practices. The original subject headings and divisions were maintained.
