HISTORICAL NOTE

This notebook appears to have been kept by an astronomy student in the early decades of Augustana College. Nothing is known about its provenance.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The astronomy notebook, circa 1880s, contains definitions of astronomical and other scientific terminology, mathematical equations, longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates, drawings, figures, triangulations, word problems, and other notes, presumably produced in an astronomy class at Augustana College, perhaps conducted by astronomy professor Andrew Woods Williamson. About a dozen pages near the center of the book have been torn out.
