HISTORICAL NOTE

Luella Hallberg, Augustana College class of 1940, served as class representative and author of the alumni newsletter. Her graduating class was known as the first “War Years” class; many members served in the armed forces, including Luella herself as United States Navy Reserve Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (USNR WAVES) member.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Luella Hallberg papers contain a packet from Augustana College’s 1995 alumni weekend; a spring 1995 newsletter updating alumni on the activities of various members of the class of 1940 and their family members, including a transcript of a letter from Jim Yolton describing his work as a field geologist at an oil field camp in the Middle East; letters from Augustana College alumni, 1995-1996; and material, 1994, apparently taken from a scrapbook, including letters from Augustana College alumni and photographs of the class of 1940, Don and Jerry Bohman and family, Cassie and Jim Yolton, and Sheldon and Betty Peterson and family.

SYSTEM OF ARRANGEMENT

Letters from Augustana College alumni are arranged chronologically.
