HISTORICAL NOTE

In 1918, the state of Illinois celebrated its centennial with a state fair in Springfield. Several colleges and universities entered booths and Augustana College was awarded a bronze medal for best exhibit.

The Augustana exhibit consisted of pamphlets, photos, various souvenirs, and books written by faculty and aumni. In the spirit of the Centennial fair, the booth displayed photos of the original campus buildings from the early 1860s as well as proposed plans for future developements.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Illinois Centennial State Fair collection dates from 1918 and contains a bronze medal given to Augustana College for Best Exhibit by an Illinois College. There are news clippings from Augustana College publications announcing the award and the success of the booth as well as a guest log of people who visited the booth.

 

SYSTEM OF ARRANGEMENT

The Illinois Centennial State Fair was maintained in original order with the award and the news surrounding the exhibit followed but the guest log.
