CUSTODIAL HISTORY

Little is known about the provenance of this collection.

 
HISTORICAL SKETCH

Miriam May Zwicker was born in Rock Island, Illinois.  She attended Rock Island High School and graduated in 1933.  She then enrolled at Augustana College, which she attended from 1934 until her graduation in 1938, and majored in German.  While at Augustana, she worked for Dr. Charles L. E. Esbjorn (professor of German) checking German notebooks and also checked papers for Dr. Earl A. Beyer (professor of romance languages), and was involved with the Independent Women’s Organization.

 

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Miriam Zwicker scrapbook dates from 1935 to 1960, bulk 1935-1940 and measures 1.5 linear feet (one oversized box).  The scrapbook contains newspaper clippings, programs, notecards, invitations, and Augustana Bulletins.  The materials document Miriam’s activities during her time at Augustana and her continued interest in the school after her graduation.
