| HISTORICAL NOTE |
Carl J. Peterson was a resdient of Rock Island for voer 50 years until his death in 1954. He was the construction foreman for the contractors who built Wallberg Hall in 1934. He was also the designer and builder of the Augustana College Bell Tower. |

| SCOPE AND CONTENT |
The Carl J. Peterson Papers consist of photographs from the 1921 lowering of Zion Hill on 38th Street, prior to the building of Seminary Hall and Ascension Chapel, as well as blueprints, sketches, and building permits from the 1935-1936 construction of the Augustana College Bell Tower and the Bulletin Board located next to Denkman. The collection measures 0.25 linear inches.

| SYSTEM OF ARRANGEMENT |
The Carl J. Peterson Papers are organized
by project and is divided into three series: Augustana College Bell Tower, Bulletin Board (Donated by the Class of 1936), and Photographs.
The Augustana College Bell Tower series dates from 1935-1936 and includes blueprints and drawings from Petersons' plans for the Bell Tower. It also contains contracts and invoices of supplies needed.
The Bulletin Board (Donated by the Class of 1936) series dates from 1936 and contains a building proposal and drawings of the Bulletin Board given by the class of 1936.
The Photographs series dates from around 1921 and contains six black and white photographs of the leveling of Zion Hill to prepare for the building of Seminary Hall and Ascension Chapel. |
