Materials—Support and enrich each student’s learning with the most educationally valuable resources in the most appropriate formats.

  • In consultation with the faculty, continue transition from paper to electronic format for many of our periodicals. (Mary)
  • Develop a collection recovery plan. (Mary and Carla)
  • Assess patrons’ needs and quality of our collection-building efforts by analyzing system reports of circulation, interlibrary loan, and I-Share universal borrowing data. (Mary)
  • Investigate buying rather than borrowing selected books requested through interlibrary loan (e.g. Spanish language materials). (Mary)
  • Discuss textbooks on reserve. (Connie)
  • Evaluate higher fines for ILL, selective control of what may be ILLed, etc. (Carla and Mary)
  • Preservation of selected materials; migrate from obsolete to new formats when appropriate, especially materials related to Augustana’s 150th anniversary. (Sarah and Jamie)
  • Finalize the collection development policy for Special Collections. (Jamie and Sarah)
  • Establish target collection areas and guidelines for deselection process. (Mary and Amanda)

Organization—Make the library simple to use; describe and organize knowledge and information so that users can obtain resources in the most efficient manner.

  • Continue retrospective cataloging of rare books in Special Collections. (Sarah, Katie and Sally)

  • Further strengthen and focus the mission of Special Collections. (Jamie and Sarah)

Service—Deliver coordinated, consistent, and high quality service that is responsive to the Augustana College community and to other library users.

  • Continue to collaborate with faculty and ITS staff regarding the use of Moodle and related Augustana copyright policy. (Christine)
  • Analyze our weekend reference hours and staffing. (Anne and Carla)
  • Investigate opportunities for collaboration with the Reading/Writing Center. (Connie)
  • Review library liaisons to interdisciplinary academic programs. (Anne)
  • Evaluate chat reference options. (Anne)
  • Discuss how to publicize new materials. (Margi and Christine)
  • Consider the parameters of reference service provided by Special Collections to the public. (Jamie and Sarah)
  • Collaborate with Admissions on outreach efforts with high schools. (Connie)
  • Create customer service training video for Circulation student workers. (Christine)

Teaching—Collaborate with the faculty to teach each Augustana student to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively.

  • Review the integration of information literacy into curriculum planning for each major. (all bibliographers)

  • Investigate HEDS test of information literacy. (Connie)
  • Enhance librarians’ teaching through observation partnerships. (Stefanie)

  • Develop research support for “Augie Reads” selection. (Margi)

Place—Develop the library not only as a repository of resources or a gateway to information, but as a place where faculty, staff, and students communicate and collaborate intellectually, culturally, and socially; enhance the library to best support Augustana’s goals of academic excellence and student growth.

  • Actively pursue redesign and expansion of Special Collections. (Jamie and Sarah)

  • Pursue acoustical improvements of 5th floor and study rooms. (Carla)
  • Build on the success of the Edible Book Festival by planning and hosting a second festival with a 150th Anniversary component. (Mary and Margi)

Community—Contribute to the development of the Augustana College community by participating in its curricular and co-curricular activities, and in its connections to the greater community.

  • Coordinate the campus-wide Celebration of Learning. (Anne and Stefanie)
  • Coordinate Celebration of Faculty Achievement. (Carla and Margi)
  • Continue to coordinate information literacy with secondary schools. (Connie)
  • Collaborate with other faculty to plan and promote the River Readings at Augustana series. (Margi)
  • Plan LunchBytes series in cooperation with ITS. (Amanda)
  • Develop content for the website and publications celebrating Augustana’s 150th anniversary. (Sarah, Stefanie and Jamie)
  • Provide research and materials for campus events commemorating Augustana’s 150th anniversary. (Sarah, Stefanie and Jamie)
  • Explore an undergraduate library internship in conjunction with Career Center. (Margi and Stefanie)

Communication— Inform the college community what we do and why; engage the members of that community in using library services, thereby promoting the integration of intellectual inquiry, academic excellence, and respect for diversity into the fabric of Augustana College.

Professional Development—Participate in professional communities and activities in order to strengthen the services of the library and their support of academic excellence.

  • Attend Oberlin Group of Libraries Directors’ meeting. (Carla)
  • Attend online and in-person professional seminars, including those not specific to librarianship. (Various librarians)
  • Attend Rare Book School at the University of Virginia. (Sarah)
  • Attend numerous consortia committee and membership meetings, including CARLI (IL academic libraries), local system, OCLC, and others. (Various librarians and staff)
  • Hold office and serve on boards and committees of several library consortia, as above. (Various Management Team members)
  • Submit publications and presentations to appropriate journals and groups. (Various librarians)
